BARTOW – Steve Githens recently qualified to face off against incumbent Trish Burdin-Pfeiffer and Gerald Jacob Cochran for Seat Four on the Bartow City Commission in the Bartow municipal election April 7.
Bartow City Commissioner Leo E. Longworth is running unopposed for Seat Five.
Githens, of Michell Githens State Farm Insurance, explained why he wants to be on the city commission.
“I believe that government should be responsive, effective, efficient and caring,” Githens said.
Githens has served on the Boards of Directors of Main Street Bartow, the Church Service Center, the Union Academy Band Boosters and the Bartow Rotary Club. His government experience includes time on the Bartow Citizens Advisory Committee and most recently the Bartow Community Redevelopment Agency.
“I’m running because I feel very strongly about the future of Bartow,” Githens said. “We started a business, moved here and have become very attached to the community. I feel that it is an obligation to do the best you can to serve the community you live in.”
