The 2019 Christmas campaign for the U. S. Marine Corp Reserve Toys for Tots program closed with a very successful year! This past Christmas, we provided new, unwrapped toys to 14,228 underprivileged children — an increase of over 1,866 children from the previous year.
Additionally, through many efforts, 45,914 toys were collected from community donations in 2019.
In total, volunteers put in more than 4,500 hours selecting toys and packing them for each family.
Volunteers delivered toy collection boxes to 450 locations around the county and collected toys when the boxes were full. In addition to the toy donation boxes, numerous businesses held events collecting toys for the program.
In December, toys were distributed to families at 10 separate distribution sites around Polk County. Over 150 new volunteers assisted in the distribution.
The success of the campaign is the result of the generous Polk County citizens and community. On behalf of all the volunteers working with the Toys for Tots program, we hope that our efforts provided a better Christmas for the families that we served.
